1 Piece vs 2 Piece motorcycle suits

If there is one thing that makes new riders doubt, it is the choice between a 1-piece or 2-piece motorcycle suit. The best choice for you depends on the type of rider you are. I’ll explain the biggest pros an cons of each one in this article. Let me give you a quick summary first:

A one-piece suit will offer you full protection for your body and will not flap due to air resistance when you are riding your motorcycle. If your interest is racing or riding through traffic, then a one-piece suit might be a great option. On the other hand, a two-piece suit offers both flexibility and protection. The additional advantage with a two-piece suit is that you get more slots to store your items. This is because it has more pockets than a one-piece suit has.

You can tell that this is just a brief overview of the differences the two suits have. As you dive deeper into the article, you will learn more about these two suits.

The best material to choose for either One Piece or 2 Piece suits

There is no doubt about this, it is so apparent that the best material you should consider is leather. Most designers use leather for the effect it has on the road. There are no questions about the quality you’ll get with a leather suit, whether one or two-piece. I have been a leather user for years, and it has never disappointed me.

The leather is not only comfortable to put on but is also durable and resistant to abrasion. When choosing your leather suit, you must be careful not to take imitation as this would compromise your safety. The best way to go about this is buying stuff only at credible and authentic motorcycle sites or shops. If you don’t do this, the only difference between you and a skin graft will be time or chance.

Make sure that you buy the best item that your pocket can allow you to. Don’t break the bank trying to buy the most expensive leather material but at the same time don’t spend too little on whack products. Save your skin and wallet at the same time.

Pros and cons of 1-piece suits

One piece suits have some advantages which make them the ideal choice for a given group of motorcycle riders. The following are some of the pros of one piece suits:

  • Well perforated around the chest and stomach to allow air circulation
  • They are ideal for racing and riding through traffic
  • They are the best for summer riding
  • Safer for some group of riders including track day riders

There are also some cons that the one piece suit has. These are a two of them:

  • It is quite difficult to put on and remove
  • Finding the right fit can be a challenge
  • They can be quite narrow and pressing to the body

Pros and coins of 2-piece suits

Now onto the two-piece suits, there are some pros here. Most people love them for the following:

  • Offer flexibility to the user
  • Are comfortable to put on
  • Ideal for casual rides
  • Have more pockets to store items
  • Great for touring and adventure
  • They are more versatile
  • They have cooling abilities due to their zipped vents

Of course, no product is all good without some shortcomings. These are the cons of two-piece suits:

  • Isn’t fully perforated
  • Not ideal for sports riding

This is why you should choose the one piece over the two piece

There are some reasons why you would decide to pick the one piece suit over the latter. Of course, if your area of specialization is racing, summer riding, track days and competitions, then the one piece suit would be an excellent choice for you to pick. Such kind of activities would need you to don an outfit that will fit you tightly and also protect you from any danger in case of an accident.

The one-piece suit seems to be ideal for racing gurus and those who want to do some extreme sports using their motorbikes. You need to be extra careful when searching for a one-piece suit that will fit you. They don’t meet everybody though most are covered. It should be able to fit you comfortably and not suffocate you or press you too much.

While others may view the tight nature of one piece as being a disadvantage, others take it as an advantage as it is better to be safe than comfortable – they say.

Therefore if you fall under the above categories, then it would be best for you to get the one piece suit. This will help you achieve your goals and be a better rider.

Always zip your jacket and pants together to increase safety

This is why you should choose the two piece over the one piece

The first thing you will notice with the two-piece suit is the versatility. You can wear it anywhere as opposed to the one-piece suit which is majorly for sporting activities. Who wouldn’t want an outfit that you can use anywhere after all?

It is important to note that you can use the two-piece for sporting activities though it will not be as ideal as the one piece suit. Now we are talking about the two pieces and so let’s not deviate from the topic at hand. The two-piece has a myriad of advantages apart from versatility. It is comfortable and relaxing to wear. This is the reason why it is considered a cruising suit. You wear it when going for touring, adventure and other casual rides.

Unlike the one-piece suit, you can comfortably wear and remove the two-piece suit without much hustle. You can, therefore, have stopovers on your casual rides and even get the suit off and store it until your little break is over. This allows you to get helpings easily without much struggle.

Also when talking about the comfort of this suit, I cannot fail to mention the air circulation it offers. It has been designed with perforations that allow air freely inside to keep the user’s body relaxed. This ensures that you don’t sweat too much when you have it on or lack atmosphere in any way. It also doesn’t press against your chest so much like the one-piece, which to be honest I appreciate.

You are more flexible when in a two-piece as compared to a one piece. I have worn a one piece and knew the truth in this statement far too well. When you are wearing a one piece, it feels like you are a robot in some way, my opinion. Although it holds you firm enough for safety purposes, I feel like it’s a little bit too much for me. The two piece suit, on the other hand, doesn’t hold you too firm giving you the flexibility to move around more easily. This, therefore, implies that you can run your arms and body with ease and without pressure, something I find very convenient.

One thing I love about the two-piece suits that make them so comfortable is that the jacket detaches when you are off the bike. This is what allows you to take off your coat easily when you have arrived at your destination. This is an option that is noticeably absent when wearing a one-piece suit.

Lastly, unlike the one-piece suit, the two-piece has many pockets for storing the obvious (Items you carry daily when on transit) this is convenient when riding so that you don’t have to leave anything you need behind.

Summary: Lessons learned

I have worn both one piece and the two-piece suit and preferred the two piece suit. I have reasons for my choice which include the flexibility it has, the comfort, the ease of usage and versatility. All these pros put together, make the two-piece an ideal suit for motorcycle riders like me. It always stays a matter of preference, but the two-piece motorcycle suits will be suitable for most of the riders.
