Alpinestars Toucan vs Sidi Adventure. Which is the best Adventure boot?

Are you preparing for an amazing adventure ride on your motorcycle, or are you just looking for new adventure boots for your rides?

In this article, I’d like to share my thoughts and experience with the Alpinestars Toucan and the Sidi Adventure boots. Both of these are considered high-end Adventure boots and many riders have to make a choice between the two.

I’ve tried both boots on myself and I’ve done research online going through a dozen of forums to summarize all the information in this one article.

The short answer is that the Alpinestars Toucan are better for people with wider feet, whiles the Sidi Adventure is better for people with more narrow feet.

Make sure you buy the right boot!

There are several versions of these boots available, all at their own price level. You can find the right boots here:

Alpinestars Toucan

Sidi Adventure

Fitment of both boots

Let’s start with the fitment of the boots. I’ve got pretty wide feet and one of my feet is wider than the other. The Sidi Adventure was too narrow for me, it really squeezed my foot. The Alpinestars Toucan boots were fitting better in my case.

That’s also what I’ve found whiles doing my research online. The biggest difference between these boots is the fact that the Alpinestars are wider than the Sidi’s.

This means that you’ll have to figure out what type of foot you have. The user Slan mentioned on a forum that he purchased the Sidi Adventures. He really liked them, but they were still a little bit narrow for his B/C feet. He was still happy with his purchase, but it’s something to consider when you have wide feet like me.

As a matter of fact; on my research to the best boot for wide feet, I also ended up with the Alpinestars Toucan. So it looks like the Sidi’s are a little bit tighter than average, whiles the Toucans are wider than the average boot.

Protection from the boots

Both boots are full of protective parts to keep your feet safe during your adventures. However, there is a small difference.

Users mentioned on forums that the Sidi has better ankle protection. It has an ankle brace, keeping your ankle from moving horizontally. This can be important when you tumble over with your foot under your motorcycle.

The Toucans, however, have a very protective shin plate. It’s great for protection, but can be a little bit too much if you want to wear it under your pants. I guess both of these boots are a little bit of an overkill if you would wear them on street rides.

Waterproof and breathable

Both of these boots are featured with Gore-Tex. It’s the absolute best material when you are looking for a breathable but waterproof boot.

Several riders on the ADVRider forum mentioned that their boots stayed dry after wearing them in heavy rain. Some even mentioned that their Sidi’s stayed dry whiles he walked through a little creek.

Gore-Tex is amazing and you’ll never want to go back to basic leather once you’ve had a pair of Gore-Tex motorcycle boots. They are a little bit more expensive, but it’s absolutely worth if you ride in the rain on a regular base.

Bulky and stiffness

I haven’t had the chance to ride with these boots for an extended period of time, but some other riders did. They mentioned that both of these boots break in pretty easily.

My advice would be to wear them inside your house whiles vacuuming, doing the dishes or watching TV. This helps the boots to form to the shape of your feet, which will make it more comfortable during your first rides.

You can always try to stretch your boots by using these tips.

The Sidi’s are a little bit bulkier than the Toucans. Users say that there is not much feeling of the controls when using it on the bike. It’s hard to feel the shifter or rear brake when wearing the Sidi’s.

However, it’s just a matter of getting used to it. Some say that they don’t want anything else after two months of riding with the Sidi’s. It can be a strange feeling in the beginning but after a while, you won’t remember what your old boots felt like.

Are you somebody that walks a lot in between your rides? In that case, you might want to go for the Toucans, since the Sidi’s are so stiff and bulky.

Pricing of these adventure boots

These Gore-Tex adventure boots don’t come in cheap. Expect to pay at least a couple of hundred dollars. At the time of writing this article, the Alpinestars Toucan boots are a little bit pricier than the Sidi Adventures.

I hope this little article helped you to choose between the two of these boots. Drive safe and keep the shiny side up fellow riders!
