Best Time to Buy a Motorcycle from a Dealer

Are you looking to buy a new motorcycle and are you wondering if there is such a thing as “The best time to buy a motorcycle”?

Well, there is! There are several reasons that some months are better to buy a motorcycle than other months. In this article I’ll tell you what the best time is to buy a motorcycle from a dealer, to buy a used motorcycle from somebody else, and I’ll also tell you the worst time to go and purchase your bike.

What is the best time to buy a motorcycle from a dealer?

Are you looking to buy a motorcycle from a dealer? The best time to purchase a motorcycle from a dealer is in the month of February. There are several reasons that make February the best month to purchase your bike.

First of all, February is in the middle of winter for most parts of the world. Do you live in a place where it gets real cold during winter, or does it even snow regularly in the winter months? That’s perfect to get some discounts at the dealership! Motorcycle dealerships are absolutely dead silence during these months of the year. Some of them even close their doors because it doesn’t make sense for the staff to be there all day for a handful of individuals that come and visit the dealership. That’s why a dealer is, more often than not, happy to give you a discount when you come and buy a motorcycle in the winter.

A second reason is the fact that February is a very short month. Most salesmen get targets which they have to reach every single month. A motorcycle dealership will have lower targets for the winter, but February is about 10% shorter than any other month of the year. This means that the dealer will have a hard time reaching the targets. This is another reason for them to give you some extra discount, to convince you to buy the motorcycle from them.

A third reason is the weather. Days are short in February, there isn’t that much daylight. Nobody is going to take a motorcycle for a test drive in the dark. So the dealer can be open from 8 AM until 8 PM, there won’t be many people taking a motorcycle for a test drive in the early morning or in the evening. This is another reason they’ll have fewer people visiting for a test drive.

Keep in mind that this may also be the case for motorcycle maintenance. I always bring my motorcycle for maintenance in the winter, since my dealership has lower prices during those periods. I just make sure that I don’t drive when there is loads of salt on the road since this might cause corrosion.

Best time to buy a used motorcycle from Craigslist

Are you looking to buy a used motorcycle from an individual from Craigslist (for example)? In that case, the rules above might not apply.

Most motorcycles are sold in the beginning or end of the season. This means that there are a lot of motorcycles being offered, which tends to push the prices down. That’s why it’s best to buy a used motorcycle at the start or the end of the motorcycle season.

There will be more motorcycles for sale during the end of the season, since people want to get rid of their bike after enjoying it for one last season. However, the people that sell it at the start of the season often sell it to buy another motorcycle. This means they might be in a hurry selling their bike, which makes them more willing to give a discount.

In terms of months, I’d say that April and September are the best months to buy a used motorcycle on Craigslist, depending on the length of the motorcycle season in your location.

The absolute worst time to buy a motorcycle

You might be wondering if there is the worst time to buy a motorcycle from a dealership. And yes, there is!

I wouldn’t buy a motorcycle from a dealership at the start of a new season. There are several reasons for that, but the biggest reason is the fact that it’s extremely busy during this period. The dealership will have record months selling motorcycles and they don’t need your sale as much as they do in the winter.

The newest models are usually introduced during this period and the old models have been sold to the smart guys and girls who came to buy a motorcycle in February. So be smart like them and purchase your bike before the rest of the nation does!
